Tekst pisma:
To: Martin SCHULZ, president of the European Parliament
Brussels, 1 October 2015.
Mr President, Undersigned Members of the European Parliament would like to draw your attention to the following. We received an invitation for the ‘European Week of Action for Girls 2015’, organized from 11th till 17th October, according to their website under the patronage of the European Parliament. That week is organized by a number of NGO’s, including the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Recently, a serious scandal emerged at the IPPF branch in the United States. Ten videos were published that show Planned Parenthood top-level employees explaining the organisation’s harvesting and selling of baby parts and even entire foetal cadavers after abortion.
This has been allegedly done for profit, which constitutes a criminal offense under the U.S. law. Evidence can be found here (including un-edited footage): https://www.youtube.com/user/centerformedprogress. According to Article 21 of the European Legal Framework, ‘The human body and its parts shall not, as such, give rise to financial gain’. Article 3 (2) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU states that ‘In the fields of medicine and biology, […] the prohibition on making the human body and its parts as such a source of financial gain’. IPPF clearly violated these articles in the US and should therefore be prevented from working in the European Union, let alone to organize or participate in official events in any of the EU institutions.
Besides the criminal nature of such activities, the undersigned MEPs consider this a severe and appalling human rights breach. IPPF, the umbrella organisation of which the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a member, is a major recipient of EU-funding. Not only are we surprised that this funding doesn’t seem to be duly questioned by the EU despite the very clear evidence published, but we would like to express our strong opposition against IPPF co-organizing this event, including the round table discussion “Girls & the Sustainable Development Goals: Where do we stand?” on Wednesday October 14th, under the patronage of the European Parliament. Given the severity of the facts that came to light and the criminal nature of above described activities, we protest against any of the IPPF branches being given the floor in any of the EU institutions, let alone with the blessing of the European Parliament. Therefore, we urge you to withdraw the patronage for the ‘European Week of Action for Girls 2015’ as long as IPPF is one of the organizers of this event. Furthermore, we ask you to ban IPPF and its branches from the Parliaments premises and any further (co-) sponsoring of events until their activities in the U.S. as well as in the EU are investigated.
We, the undersigned MEPs, would like to request as well a meeting with you in order to discuss this
issue. We request as well that you put this matter on the agenda of the next meetings of the
Conference of Presidents and Bureau.
Yours sincerely,
Branislav ŠKRIPEK MEP
